ABOUT MORGAN

As a multi-disciplinary designer, she keeps her practice open to expand her knowledge in textile and sustainable design. Having curated and hosted her exhibition 'Textiles Talks' and taken part in the Channel 4 TV series 'Tony Robinson's Museum of Us', she is now working towards further study in the field of bio-design in architectural spaces through a material context - whilst creating bespoke textile pieces for businesses and clients. Nature, creativity and science combined, are Morgan's greater interests and constant sources of inspiration.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My greatest textile enthusiasm is weaving and materiality. When I first started weaving at Norwich University of the Arts, I was compelled by the design approach of weaving and evolved my journey as a textile artist. I create hand dyed and hand woven fabrics, using sustainable materials to create environmentally circular pieces of art. Designers face an unprecedented urgency to alter their methods and reprioritise their goals to address the accelerating degradation of the environment. Textile engineers and material developers are aiming to replace all materials with sustainable alternatives within the next 10 years, to keep generating an economy that is responsible. Engaging with these topics in the textiles industry can evolve the way we approach design and continue to strive towards innovation through sustainability.

I often turn to unconventional materials to explore the structural potential of weaving, manipulating fabrics through the warp and the weft to explore possibilities. Not only do I experiment with mixed media in weaving, but also in print design, photography, editorial design. I would say my illustrative style is a mix between expressionism and minimalism. However occasionally I'll be epxerimenting outside my usual comfort zone.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY

Being a sustainable artist is a top priority for my business. I use only eco-friendly yarn and materials for my woven fabrics, art prints and packaging materials. The art prints are printed on recycled paper and I only create a small number of products at a time in order to reduce waste and costs.
