FRACTURED ICE
Final Major Project at NUA
The theme around this textile project is to raise awareness of the climate emergency - the melting ice caps due to global warming. The fashion and textiles industry largely contributes to this problem because of industrial processes, extraction and transportation of fossil fuels and crude oil; not to mention, the agriculture of by-products for manufacturing fabrics.
As we leave this Earth, the clothes on our body and all around us are left behind and will most likely end up in landfill where they will sit for over 200 years. I utilised sustainable methods in this project to create responsible, biodegradable fabrics as an alternative to existing, unsustainable fabrics. These hand dyed and hand woven fabrics are great for a range of interior styles - from traditional to contemporary settings. Due to the technical properties of these natural fibres, they are also great for fashion contexts, being non-irritable and soft on the skin.
